Hubbard House Inc careers

A volunteer riding a bicycle down Hubbard Street, in Jacksonville's Springfield neighborhood, saw a house for sale, and that is where the name comes from. The group behind it had set up a rape crisis hotline in the 1970s and kept hearing the same thread running through the calls: domestic violence. Hubbard House opened on that spot in 1976, the first domestic violence shelter in Florida by its own account. It now runs a 116-bed facility at a confidential address plus an Outreach Center on Beach Boulevard, serving Duval and Baker counties, and has answered more than 147,000 hotline calls across 50 years.
Close to half the agency's yearly funding comes from individual and organizational donors, which makes development a real department rather than a side duty: individual giving and a giving society, planned gifts, event sponsorships, donation drives and in-kind collections, and the thrift store the agency opened to support its own work.
